How Does The All-New Toyota Camry Stack Up Against Its Competitors?

By now, you would have seen the brochure and also the estimated price for the new Toyota Camry, which is coming to Malaysia in June. How would Malaysia’s all time favourite large sedan/saloon stack up against rivals? In the 2.0 litre segment, there is the traditional Honda Accord 2.0 VTi-L, Nissan Teana 2.0 Luxury, Mazda 6 2.0 and couple of Koreans – Hyundai Sonata YF 2.0 and Kia Optima K5 2.0. Car Launches: Coming soon to Malaysia

In the next couple of months, we are expecting a few cars to be launched here in Malaysia. First, is the Mazda CX-5 in May. We will be getting the 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder SkyActiv petrol engine with the 6 speed automatic transmission, as detailed here. There will be 2 drivetrains available – all-wheel drive and also front wheel drive. Feature wise, the CX-5 gets 6 airbags, electric seats, a Bose sound system, bi-Xenon headlamps, a sunroof, Bluetooth, cruise control, keyless entry system, front and rear parking sensor, reverse camera, sat nav and for the first in its class, engine idle start stop system.

2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid Launched in Thailand

This is the best indication of what Camry shape we are getting

It’s shaping up that we won’t get the hotter looking Camry. Instead, we will be having the more, er, politically correct version of the Camry. A brief glance through the specs sheet, indicates that there will be 3 engine options. 2.0 litre, 2.5 litre and 2.5 litre hybrid. The Camry will get a 4 speed automatic transmission, a 6 speed automatic transmission and a CVT, respectively.

If you just got back to work after a week long of Chinese New Year break, why not treat yourself to Super Bowl commercials? Super Bowl commercials are a big thing in the United States, as it is the championship game of the National Football League there. It is much like the Barclay’s Premier League of another, er, football. The viewership of a game reaches more than 90 million viewers, so naturally, a 30 seconds ad cost a premium as well. Despite this, the US Consumer Reports ranked the 2012 Toyota Camry as one of the top family saloons currently on sale on US soil. Apart from the interior that gets Consumer Reports’ approval, it was also cited to have better handling and better fuel economy.

Another Toyota Camry Variant?

Difference in the skin only?

OK. The US got their Camry 3 days ago. And now, Toyota Ukraine released this version of the Camry. I wonder which variant Malaysia would be getting. I personally think US’s Camry is certainly a looker compared to Ukrainian’s but the later may appeal more to the market segment here. Engine options looks to be similar to US’s Camry – 2.4 4 potter and 3.5 V6. More pictures after the jump.
