Say Hello to the BMW 640d xDrive Coupe and Convertible

Fancy a diesel coupe or convertible? Now you can

BMW is set to add another variant of the coupe and convertible to the 6 Series line-up with the 640d xDrive in spring 2012. The new BMW 640d xDrive coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. The 6-cylinder 313hp diesel powerplant uses BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology to ensure outstanding efficiency. With the standard 8 speed automatic gearbox, the average fuel consumption of the BMW 640d xDrive Coupe is only 5.7 – 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres. The xDrive system is an intelligent all-wheel-drive system that distributes the power generated by the engine precisely between the front and rear wheels as the situation demands. No word on when this will arrive on our shores.

BMW Introduces X3 xDrive28i

Naming convention is about to get more confusing

In line with engine downsizing, BMW introduces a 4 cylinder 2.0 litre turbocharged engine to the X3, which is 245 hp and 350 Nm of twist force. The engine is also mated with a new 8 speed automatic transmission. The xDrive28i shaves off 0.2 seconds, going at 6.7s compared to the 3.0 litre in-line six naturally aspirated (6.9s) in century sprint. Besides that, the fuel consumption is better at 31 mpg (7.6l/100km). With the new engine, BMW’s Driving Experience Control will be included as standard in all of the upcoming models. The control system allows drivers to select between four adjustment choices, offering different driving dynamics to suit the mood of the driver.

BMW F30 328i Is More Fuel Efficient Than E90 335d

Sips Fuel

Ok, this might not be an apple to apple comparison but the new N20 engine, which is used in the new BMW F30 is more fuel efficient than the N57 used in the E90 335d. The N20 is a 2-litre twin-turbocharged inline-4 petrol engine, producing 245hp and 350Nm of torque while the N57 is a 3 litre straight-six turbocharged diesel engine with significantly higher figures; 282hp and 580Nm of torque. Strictly from figures, one can logically surmise that the E90 335d will trump the F30 320i, but no, you’d be surprised.

RUMOUR: BMW Malaysia’s Plan for 2012

According to unofficial sources, BMW Malaysia will be bringing in two units of 1 series M coupe. The F10 M5 will go on sals in May too. Nice, but to the mere mortals like us, the most interesting story would be the F30. There would be 3 models. Our guess is that the three models would be the 320d, 328i (which is 2.0 litre twin turbocharged) and top of the line 335i, which has a 3.0 litre single turbocharged N55 motor. Price wise, we think it’ll be more expensive than the E90. Stay tuned for more news on the F30!
