Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) has announced a price increase for selected Nissan cars, effective 1 April 2016. Ranging from 2.8% to 6.7%, the principal cause of the hike is the weakened Malaysian Ringgit that has severely impacted overall operational costs.
ETCM was one of the last automakers to increase its prices. The company implemented cost rationalization measures and reviewed all operations across its supply chains to mitigate the weaker Ringgit.
However, after prolonged unfavourable foreign exchange and persistent pressure from higher operating costs, ETCM ultimately, could not avoid a price review.
It has however, succeeded in adjusting prices as minimal as possible, and limiting the hike to only selected models.
The four models affected are the CKD Almera, Grand Livina, X-Gear and Teana.
Out of the four, the Almera 1.5E AT variant tops the hike with a 6.7% increase, bringing its OTR price up from RM67,678.36 to RM72,200.
Here’s the full list of new prices effective 1 April 2016.
The prices for Serena S-Hybrid, X-Trail, NP300 Navara and NV200 remain unchanged.
