Honda Malaysia sets sights on 90,000 unit sales in 2016

2015 marked an incredible year for Honda Malaysia, for the first time topping the non-national segment. Hitting a record of 94,90 units sold in 2015, the carmaker outlined its plans and goals for 2016 at a media appreciation event earlier today.

Managing director and chief executive office of Honda Malaysia, Yoichiro Ueno revealed that 2015 was a challenging year for the Malaysian automotive industry. Economic slowdown due to the weakening Malaysian Ringgit, implementation of GST, and drop in oil price caused Total Industry Volume (TIV) in Malaysia to be almost flat—at just 666,674 units. Despite that, Honda still delivered great results to end the year on a high.

Record-breaking 2015

Honda captured 14.2% market share with record-breaking sales, translating to 22% y-o-y growth. In December 2015, it hit an all-time monthly sales record of 10,741—the first time it had hit five digits. Strong demand for the City and Jazz contributed to almost 60% of total sales. The dynamic duo continue to lead their respective segments.

2015 also saw the introduction of two SUV models—facelifted CR-V and all-new HR-V. Both did well in the SUV segment. Additionally, Honda successfully won the hearts of East Malaysians, garnering a sales growth of 36% compared to the previous year.

Full steam ahead in 2016

Despite an anticipated challenging year ahead, Honda has set a sales target of 90,000 units in 2016. Malaysian TIV is forecasted to be between 630,000 to 640,000 units which is a drop of 4-5%.

Honda will continue to offer value-for-money products that deliver joy and inspiration to its customers. To enhance customer experience, it plans to increase dealerships and Body and Paint (BP) Centres to 95 dealers and 20 BP Centre nationwide, up from the current 87 and 14 respectively.
