In its immediate class, the Focus competes with the Chevrolet Cruze, Citroën DS4, Honda Civic, Hyundai i30, Hyundai Veloster, Kia Cerato, Mazda 3, Mitsubishi Lancer, Nissan Sylphy, Peugeot 308, Renault Clio, Renault Fluence, Toyota Corolla Altis, Volkswagen Golf, and Volkswagen Jetta. I would personally rate the Mazda 3 SkyActiv, Peugeot 308 THP and the Mk VII Volkswagen Golf as the closest competitors to the incoming Focus (the new Golf is RM20k more expensive, though). As such, if you find yourself in the market for a C-segment vehicle, these should be the top 4 choices you are faced with.
With the competition in the C-segment hatch being tightly contested, why should you even consider the Focus? Well, in a nutshell, there is currently no other manufacturer that offers this complete a package for a C-segment (comparing each flagship variant), especially given its price point (estimated to be approximately RM130,000-ish). Perhaps the shift to a conventional gearbox might be a boon for those in search for reliability complementing a sportier ride. At the end of the day, your decision in purchasing the Focus is a personal one, but a hint in the right direction sure doesn’t hurt.
