Lamborghini Aventador SV Conquers Nurburgring

In a day and age where hybrid supercars (or hypercars, choose your poison) dominate the media headlines, Lamborghini, along with Pirelli, flew over to the Nurburgring to set the record straight. Their objective? To prove that old school naturally aspirated engines can hold its own alongside the cool kids.

Lamborghini proceeded to fix Pirelli’s finest tyres, the P Zero Corsa, to its Aventador LP750-4 SV, plonk a bloke named Marco Mapelli in the drivers seat, and let him loose. The result? A staggering lap time of 6 min 59.73sec. Yes, the “grandpa” Lambo with no electric power managed to clock the Nurburgring in under 7 minutes. That’s only two seconds off the ridiculously complicated Porsche 918 Spyder, and likely not far off the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1; both of which have yet to release official timing around the Ring.

From the video, it is clear that the tyres began to lose grip halfway around the lap, meaning if Pirelli can solve this small issue, the Aventador SV is capable of shaving a few seconds off this time, potentially making it faster than the 918 Spyder. Now that would be chuffin’ marvelous, wouldn’t it?

Enough talk, enjoy the on-board footage below.
