Lamborghini Urus Given Green Light

Over the past three years, we have all been hearing about a certain SUV from a certain Italian automaker. While Lamborghini publicly displayed its Urus Concept at multiple high profile events, it was common knowledge that Audi AG was hesitant to green lighting a project as risky as this one. While many have predicted the Urus will never make it into production, Lamborghini has proudly announced the SUV will be available in 2018.

Considering the fact that Lamborghini only has two models in production (Aventador and Huracan), a project of this magnitude would require a serious upgrades to Lamborghini’s facility. As such, the Urus will be built at Lamborghini’s soon-to-expanded factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, and will double the company’s current sales volume. Sales targets have already been drawn up, with the Italian manufacturer targeting figures in excess of 3,000 units per year, with the majority of sales expected to come from China, the United States, and the Middle East.

Cheapest Lamborghini?

“The introduction of a third model line endorses the stable and sustainable growth of the company and signifies for us the beginning of a new era,” Lamborghini chief executive Stephan Winkelmann said in a statement. While it remains to be seen if the Urus Concept is capable of taking on the likes of the Porsche Cayenne, at least when it comes to sales figures, we can safely assume that Lamborghini’s SUV will manage to hit the initial sales targets. I mean, look at it!
