The focus may have been on the all-new Mazda2 Skyactiv-G that was launched at the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS 2015), however, there was also a treat for fans looking for a sportier Mazda car. The Mazda3 Racing Series Limited Edition made an appearance at the Mazda pavilion, looking fast even at standstill in metallic red.
Based on the 2.0-litre Mazda3, the racing edition is mostly a cosmetic enhancement and it retains the Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine that pushes out 165hp and 210Nm of torque. The power plant is mated to a 6-speed Hall E85 auto transmission and also comes with ABS, EBD, BA DSC stability control, anti-skid system, TCS and dual airbags.
The sporty variant is wrapped in 18-inch alloy wheels and some racy side decals, black skirts on the front side and rear. A rear spoiler is integrated on both the sedan and hatchback body styles. The hatch gets a dual exhaust while the sedan settles for a single chrome-tipped exhaust.
Inside, the cabin is a sea of black and spot red. Black leather seats with red inserts complete with red stitching and ‘Racing’ logos complete the racing look.
The Mazda3 Racing Series Limited Edition is priced at 968,00 baht (RM109,379) for the Snowflake White Pearl colour and 973,000 baht (RM109,944) for Soul Red. I pick the red, for sure. Unfortunately, this race-inspired variant is only available in Thailand for now.
Sure, this isn’t the true blue performance-bred Mazda3 MPS, but should still satisfy some Mazda fans out there. What do you think?
