Petaling Jaya, 6th March, 2015 – Dunlop has officially launched two locally-designed and manufactured sets of tyres specifically manufactured with Malaysians in mind. Continental Tyre PJ Malaysia, who run the Dunlop facility in Alor Setar, overlooked the development process of both wet weather tyres, underlining Continental Tyre Malaysia’s commitment to provide the Malaysian motorist with state of the art technology in line with Dunlop’s tagline of “Passion for Performance”.

The Continental team behind Dunlop’s push for market capitalisation.

Mr. Sim Wee Chung, National Sales Manager of Continental Tyre PJ Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., was extremely enthusiastic at the launch, saying “Travelling in the rain can be a nerve-wracking experience, a tyre with superior wet weather traction can be a big safety benefit for drivers who need to travel at speed in wet conditions. Both our Dunlop new lines are 100% engineered with German Technology, and designed with Malaysia road conditions in mind.”

With wet weather conditions in mind, Dunlop also had to find a balance in order to ensure optimum dry weather grip. Dunlop Formula D05 features wiper blocks designed to increases road contact area. The Edge-Effect reduces the water-film between tyre and road edges which act as a wiper, ensuring excellent braking performance on wet roads. Its advanced Silica Compound Technology accommodates a wider range of operating temperature compared to its predecessor, the Dunlop Formula D01. Enhanced grip tread compound also contributes to better traction on wet surfaces. Four equally distributed wide longitudinal grooves on the tyre accelerate water evacuation and equalise water dispersion rates throughout, leaving no water on the surface of contact areas, resulting in optimal grip.

CEO of Continental Tyre Malaysia, Mr. Benoit Henry, getting technical in his briefing.

Over the past decade, tyre manufacturers have placed more emphasis on fuel economy due to consumer demand, stimulated by high fuel prices. To tackle this demand, Dunlop’s SP Sport J5 was developed with a new generation of full silica compound, boasting extremely high wet grip and improved rolling resistance. This manufacturing technique allows drivers the luxury of increased driving pleasure and fuel economy, without compromising safety.  The new edge tie-bar design on the Dunlop SP Sport J5 creates high velocity water dispersion, increasing road contact. In addition, optimised sipes and grooves on the tyre enhances water wiping effects while maintaining a large contact area, ensuring excellent braking performance on wet roads.

The Dunlop Formula D05 represents the sportier variant, with especially impressive wet weather grip. Dry weather grip may not be on par with some of its rivals though.

Both types of tyres boast dry and wet season indicators, the first to be available in Malaysia, clearly indicating when to change the tyres for optimum wet performance. This reduces the hassle involved in traditional tread depth measurement.

Ironically, the Dunlop SP Sport J5 represents the comfort tyre. Expect a quiet, smooth ride, with loads of wet grip to boast.

The Dunlop Formula D05 line features 28 articles ranging from 15” to 18”, and is targeted for performance vehicles, while the SP Sport J5, which has 17 articles ranging from 12” to 15” represents the comfort tyre. These two lines cover more than 90% of the total passenger car tyre needs of the Malaysian market. Tyre availability will not be a concern, with Continental boasting the largest network of retailers in Malaysia. Covering more than 839 outlets, these two new lines will be made easily available all over Malaysia in Continental Best Drive, Continental Stores, Dunlop Klinikar, and Viking Stores.
