BMW M6 GT3 undergoes intense test program in Monteblanco and Portimão

Right after news of the new race-going Lamborghini Huracán, here comes another piece of mouth-watering GT3 news. The BMW M6 GT3 continues its intense testing program in Monteblanco (Spain) and Portimão (Portugal), laying foundations towards the car’s first race outings.

Experienced BMW works drivers namely Lucas Luhr (DE), Jörg Müller (DE), Jens Klingmann (DE), Dominik Baumann (AT) and Maxime Martin (BE) were all in action, completing valuable test kilometers at the new GT3 challenger.

BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt said that development work on the GT3 was time-consuming but “we are well on schedule.”

The development of the BMW M6 GT3 incorporates all the experience that BMW Motorsport has acquired since 2010 with its successful predecessor — the BMW Z4 GT3. The base BMW M6 Coupe is already highly impressive featuring a high-rev V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. The GT3 power train is virtually an unmodified version of this.

The 4.4-litre V8 delivers over 500hp and is paired to a six-speed sequential transmission mounted at the rear axle. It features a significantly wider track compared to the road-going M6, with aerodynamic enhancements and weight reduction. Its kerb weight is 1,300kg. Safety is priority and thus BMW Motorsport itself developed and produced the FIA-approved safety cell.

The BMW M6 GT3 will replace the BMW Z4 GT3 currently used by the BMW Team and also multiple privateers.

The car will be open for orders through 2015 and will hit worldwide race circuits in time for the 2016 season.
