You can never have enough of gears
Did you ever wish that your engine speed could be lower when cruising on the highway? Soon, you can.. as soon as 2014. Honda is reported to be working with ZF (ZF makes driveline aka gearboxes for many big automotive companies, including BMW) to use the 9 speed gearbox (codenamed 9HP) in its cars. The 9HP gearbox can take up to 480 Nm of torque in either front or all wheel drive configurations. Despite the additional gear(s), the form size is relatively small and ZF claims that it is able to improve fuel economy by as much as 10 to 16% compared to its lesser gear cousins.

A Slovenian in Kuala Lumpur
At the recent MotoXpo KL 2012, Rok Bagoroš, a 22 year old KTM stunt rider, performed numerous acts, which can be best described as absolutely brilliant. His choice of bike is of course the KTM Duke 125. Check out the video after the jump on why this young Slovenian oozes skills from his ears. We particularly like the setting fire off the kerosene/petrol on the floor… with a bike.

Legal go-kart
I was trolling on YouTube and I stumbled upon a full 8 minutes and 26 seconds lap of the Caterham Superlight R300 going through the Green Hell. The R300 is powered by a 2.0 litre Ford’s Duratec engine, which has been tuned to give an output of 175 bhp @ 7,000 rpm. Seems little, but not when the car just weighs slightly over half a tonne. Here’s the video.

Competitors, take note
Thailand seems to be getting the latest car launches ahead of anywhere else in this region. Already, the new Suzuki Swift and the new Mitsubishi Mirage were launched there following the more investor friendly Thai Eco-Car policy. That’s another story for another time. Coming back to the Chevrolet Trailblazer, there are 2 turbo-diesel engine choices are available – 2.5 litre and 2.8 litre and it will be available in 2 or 4 wheel drive configurations.

If you think this is just a drawing, wait till you see the videos
Nissan says this design weights half the typical competition vehicle, has half the aerodynamics drag and is only powered by a turbocharged direct injection 1.6 litre four cylinder petrol engine. This funky looking car, apparently can go around corners pretty fast as well. Check out the videos after the jump.

From concept to reality
It’s not the typical hybrid you have in mind. For starters, 0 – 100 km/h sprint can be dealt with in 3.1 seconds. Secondly, it has 770 horsepower. Originally, the 4.6 litre V8 used in the 918 has 570 horses. The additional 200 comes from, well, electric motors fitted at the front axle. So, technically, this is an all-wheel drive Porsche. If you think you can buy one today, the first production units will not be out until 18th September 2013 and that will also cost you a handsome USD 845,000. In the mean time, you can head over to Wired, for Damon Lavrinc’s exclusive ride in the 918 Spyder.
