Thursday, 29th March, 2012 – Taking centre stage at the KL Performing Arts Centre (KLPac), Sentul Park, Chevrolet Malaysia (NAZA Quest Sdn Bhd) launches the all new Chevrolet Colorado. This is actually 2nd generation Colorado in the Chevrolet family and is designed and engineered to be Chevrolet’s toughest and yet most refined midsize pickup truck ever.

The 2012 Colorado gets 2 different engine options; a 2.5 litre Duramax turbo diesel and 2.8 litre Duramax turbo diesel. This engine is manufactured by GM’s newly opened powertrain facility in Rayong, Thailand. Both engine versions come with Common Rail Direct Injection system and with intercooler as standard, the 2.5 outputs 150 hp at 3,800 rpm with maximum 350 Nm of torque. The 2.8 gets class leading 180 hp at 3,800 rpm and a whopping 470 Nm of torque at just 2,000 rpm. Interestingly, the 2.8 litre’s manual transmission variant, gets a lower torque figure of 440 Nm.

Other than the standard ATSA, the Colorado gets Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and also Hydraulic Brake Fade Assist (HBFA), which increases braking pressure automatically when it detects brake fading. The Colorado is built on a strengthened chassis that has better torsional rigidity with 8 cross members across the step ladder frame. The front suspension is of a double wishbone configuration with coil springs and stabiliser bar, while the rear uses semi elliptical leaf springs.

The interior of the Colorado gets a car-like feel. Starting off with the ‘dual cockpit’ front console, which is based on the Chevrolet Corvetter, the interior features two toned colour schemes. The digital Data Information Centre is flanked between the speedometer and tachometer, which looks like its based off Chevrolet’s Camaro design. The centre console is loaded with switches that controls the automatic air conditioning system and the 4WD shift switch. There are 20 storage places around the Colorado’s interior, more than enough to keep your pockets empty while driving. One feature worth mentioning is the 2-DIN audio system which, not only has USB connectivity and MP3 capability, but also the Bluetooth system and is standard across all variants. The LTZ gets multi function steering wheel and cruise control as well.

Depending on the model variant, the Colorado comes in a choice of five body colours: Summit White, Black Sapphire, Royal Gray, Sizzle Red and Auburn Brown.
